Toonces can paint, but not very well

With most of the rooms inside at least 90% complete (except for the bathrooms at 0%) we took the spring of 2007 to work outside.  I didn't think we could do it ourselves but thanks to Bryce's experience painting houses in college we set off to make the outside match what we had done inside.  The garage needed to be sanded as it is the original wood siding but luckily not a lot of work was needed to the house to get it painted as the wood siding had been covered with composite.

Luckily the metal roof is white so we could go with just about any color we wanted. We debated between khaki or green and painted some swatches on the garage.


We went with green and used a paint sprayer to change the trim from purple to Behr 'Decorator White' and brushed and rolled the rest of the house Behr 'Carriage Door'. The doors were painted Behr 'Sly Fox'. The light fixtures and hardware were switched out to black shortly after.

To paint the soffits, Bryce had to stand on the second to top rung and reach as far as possible with the sprayer.  Maybe we should have sprung for a few more feet worth of ladder.

The worst part of the entire project was painting the underside of roof over the covered deck. It was a dark stain and took many coats of paint to cover. We planned on replacing the ceiling fan but decided to paint it the door color in the meantime which, after turning out to be a successful paint job, we ended up leaving.



It was during this project our cat Toonces showed up (jokingly named for her resemblance to cat in the SNL skit before we realized she'd be around indefinitely).


We were about 90% complete with the paint job when we decided to go for broke and install a privacy fence while we were already slaving away thru the summertime. I mention it here because it's the 'after' photos which will have to wait.
